IBP Not Liable For Damages for Recommendation of Disbarment Without Full-Blown Hearing

The Supreme Court has ruled that the Board of Governors of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP Board) cannot be held liable for damages for prematurely recommending the disbarment of a lawyer based solely on the position papers and affidavits of witnesses of the parties and without the benefit of an exhaustive hearing.

Chief Justice Pledges Against Corruption

 Chief Justice Renato C. Corona yesterday signed an Integrity Pledge to signify the Judiciary’s “commitment to ethical practices and good governance” during a meeting of the members of the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) and other foreign chambers. On behalf of the Judiciary, the Chief Justice pledged to “combat graft and corruption in any form and in all activities.”
